LCI Inc. awarded three-year
accreditation from CARF
SANFORD LCI Inc. has been reaccredited by CARF, the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, an independent organization reviewing services provided by rehabilitation facilities worldwide.
The latest accreditation is the ninth-consecutive three-year accreditation the commission has awarded to LCI, indicating that the services provided are the highest quality available.
LCI programs accredited in the recent review are provided to individuals with disabilities and employers in Sanford and surrounding communities:
- Assistive Technology Services: Community and Employment Assistive Technology
- Community Services: Community Integration (Adult Developmental Vocational Program)
- Community Employment Services: Comprehensive Vocational Evaluation
- Employee Development
- Job Development
- Job Supports
- Job-Site Training
The Assistive Technology Center, which opened just last year, received a rating of exemplary from the commission, a standard rarely awarded.
The AT is an excellent example of the way in which technology can assist persons served to improve their lives," the commendation read. "The program has been able to add adaptive devices and software to meet the individualized needs of persons served.
"Staff members in this program have completed Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America (RESNA) certification. The AT program staff members are extremely knowledgeable in assistive technology and utilize a wide variety of equipment and adaptations to ensure that persons served are able to achieve their goals.
"The AT equipment is highly specialized, rapidly changing and individualized to the person's needs, which staff members clearly understand.
Tammy Koger, executive director of LCI, was not surprised by the accreditation, but was pleased the work done locally was appreciated by the review team. That's particularly true for the AT Center, which is less than one year old.
"We're honored with the exemplary notice from CARF," she said. "This is a rare instance for any organization, but it shows the dedication our entire staff has to providing opportunity for our neighbors throughout the area."
LCI's latest accreditation runs through March 31, 2009.
