For Immediate Release LCI receives 10th consecutive SANFORD — LCI's safety record was honored last week, when the organization received a statewide award for 10 consecutive years of safe operation. The "Gold Award" was presented by Cherie Berry, North Carolina's Commissioner of Labor, at a ceremony in Sanford honoring the safety achievements of local employers. Recipients were required to meet a list of criteria to qualify — including a "lost-workday" rate at least 50 percent below the statewide rate for similar companies. Receiving the Department of Labor award is LCI's latest safety accomplishment, but far from the only one. In addition, LCI has received its second national SHARP award, given to small employers who create and maintain an exemplary safety and health management system. The award provides recognition for a two-year term through 2009. Sue Marshburn, associate director of LCI, says her organization works hard to create a safe workplace, working with safety and health consultants to find and remove any potential hazard. "We're committed to providing an accident-free and comfortable work environment," she said after the presentation. "Our motto is, 'Safety is a team effort,' because we all need to work together to keep LCI a safe and healthy workplace. We all want to go home safely to our families at the end of each day." Founded in 1967, LCI primarily serves residents of Lee, Chatham, Harnett and Moore counties. The nonprofit organization provides manufacturing assistance and trained employees for business and industry, helps people with disabilities enjoy their greatest possible independence, and produces a full range of trophies, awards and engraving. — 30 — Media Contact
